Rather than send money our volunteers (DARTs) travel to disaster areas to identify deserving communities, and then manage the aid delivery to ensure that it is well targeted, effective and delivered efficiently.
On learning of a ‘Major Disaster’ our first step is to contact local Rotary Clubs and/or Non Goverment Organisations (NGOs) to see if our support is needed.
Once we know that our support is wanted and the situation is safe for our volunteers we mobilise two members of our Disaster Aid Response Team (DARTs)
If one of the identified needs is safe drinking water our DARTs will take up to 4 SkyHydrant Rapid Response Packs with each pack being capable of providing 5,000 litres per day of drinking water to a community.
DARTs
The roles of our, on site, Disaster Aid Response Team (DART) is in consultation with local organisations such as Rotary Clubs
- Identification communities we should support;
- In consultation determine what they need;
- Manage the installation of our GEM Rapid Response Pack water filters, if required.
- Distribution of funds for materials and to assist with recovery;
- Project management;
Planning and Consultation
When planning aid delivery we try to find communities that may be missed by the bigger aid organisations, and then find out from those in need what they want.

To do this we seek the help of local Rotarians, and Non Government Organisations (NGOs).
This ensures that the aid provided:
- Meets the local communities requirements.
- Involves them in working with us as ‘Partners’.
- Gives them ‘Ownership’ of the outcome.
The community thus becomes ‘A Resource Not Victims’
Recovery Response
Using our resources and contacts we.
- Determine what materials and/or equipment are available for the recovery.
- Arrange to purchase materials and equipment as locally as possible.
- Arrange transport from supplier to the response location.
- Manage equitable distribution of resources
- Provide technical advice if needed, either from our resources or from ‘United Nations Disaster Clusters’
This approach:
- Maximises our financial impact by minimising costs of waste, storage and shipping of materials.
- Speeds the rate that resources can be delivered.
- Helps the local economy to recover.
