Ukraine Update

Our partner Disaster Aid Europe continues to support the people of Ukraine.

On 16th October they handed over a Community Support Vehicle thanks to a donation from Rotary Club Neuss and sponsorship from Diamond UK.

The vehicle will be used by a fire fighting unit of the Ukraine Emergency service in Kiev.

The vehicle is packed with supplies including ‘Personal Hygiene Kits’ and Sawyer Water Filters’.

These are distributed to people affected when the unit responds to war damage homes.

At the begining of November a further supply shipment was made of Hygiene Kits and Water filters.

Disaster Aid Australia will be sending a further $2,000 for additional supplies in the coming days.

More Timor Leste Installations

Max Bird of our partner, Rotary Projects Timor Leste East, has been busy recently installing 3 SkyHydrants in Timor Leste.

Max, supported by the Rotary Club of Kwinana, has been helping the people of Timor Leste with water projects for many years.

In these projects he works closely with the Don Bosco Salesian Order and local Rotarians.

The final project before his return to Australia was the Canossa School in Dili

These three projects will mean many thousands of schoolchildren in Timor Leste will enjoy safe water.

Still Going Strong at AHHA

One of the questions we regularly get asked is “How long do the filters last?”

Five years ago the partners; Disaster Aid Australia, Rotary Projects Timor Leste East, and The Rotary Club of Phillip Island and San Remo installed a SkyHydrant in the AHHA school in Dili.

Recently the school has had to relocate and the original SkyHydrant relocated with them.

The New Installation

The unit, which is maintained daily, is still producing enough safe drinking water for this very large school.

The head of the school tells us that the installation is so important to the school that on the days that the regular operator is away he undertakes the daily clean himself.

The school which has both day pupils and boarders concentrates on students from disadvantaged communities and aims to improve their future prospects.
