Although COVID-19 is very difficult in Australia it is much more difficult in the Philippines.
Wages are just a few dollars a day and many people are self employed in activities that have disappeared.
Isolation is difficult with small homes often packed closely together.
After consultation with our Philippine partner Balay Mindanaw the board of Disaster Aid Australia (DAA) decided to provide a grant for food aid.
This will supplement the limited government rations.
THE DAA grant purchased 80 sacks of rice worth P176,000 ( P2200 / sack) that will reach around 800 families.
This was prioritized for the Front Liners and Volunteers from:
- Cotabato City
- Cagayan de Oro City
- Marawi City.
Delivery was planned to compliment other support and assistance in Mindanao.
